Rental Policies

There will be an additional charge of 2,800 ISK per rental, including vat, for each additional authorized driver. Full rental conditions apply to all additional drivers.

The Keflavik International Airport location and the BSI Bus Terminal Reykjavik location offer out of hours returns, outside of normal operating hours. When returning after hours, customers must return the car to the designated parking lot and leave the key in either a key drop box or a key vending machine located at the rental station. The customer is responsible for the car until an agent from the company collects the keys and inspects the vehicle.

MINI, ECONOMY, COMPACT AND INTERMEDIATE CARS ARE AVAILABLE FOR RENTERS 20 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER. STANDARD VANS ARE AVAILABLE FOR RENTERS 20 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER. ECONOMY, INTERMEDIATE, FULLSIZE, PREMIUM AND LUXURY SUVS ARE AVAILABLE FOR RENTERS 25 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER. FULL SIZE VANS ARE AVAILABLE FOR RENTERS 25 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER.

CROSS BORDER TRAVEL IS NOT PERMITTED.

Collision Damage Waiver - CDW - reduces the renter's financial responsibility to a fixed amount of the vehicle in case of damage or theft. Excluded from the Collision Damage Waiver are damages outlined in Article 21 of the rental terms and conditions found on the back of the rental agreement. The renter can only be held responsible for a maximum amount as follows - 500,000.00 ISK - all vehicle categories.

Domestic one way rentals are available between all locations within Iceland for all bookings. A one way fee is applicable for one way rentals. There is no minimum length of rental needed to qualify for one-way rentals. One way bookings must be made with 24 hours advance notice. One way rentals are allowed between mainland and surrounding islands. International one way rentals are not permitted.

ALL VEHICLES ARE DELIVERED WITH A FULL TANK OF FUEL AND MUST BE RETURNED IN THE SAME CONDITION. IF THE VEHICLE IS RETURNED WITH LESS THAN A FULL TANK OF FUEL, THE RENTER WILL BE CHARGED FOR THE DIFFERENCE PLUS AN EXTRA CHARGE OF 3,000 ISK. VAT AND LOCAL FEES WILL APPLY TO FUEL CHARGES. PREPAID FUEL IS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE PRIOR TO RENTING.

Personal Accident Insurance - PAI is mandatory in Iceland and is included in the rate. PAI compensates the rental driver in cases of bodily injury resulting from a traffic accident when operating the rental vehicle.

All major credit cards are accepted as well as vouchers. Debit cards and cash are not accepted at rental pickup; only a major credit card is accepted. No deposits are taken for Iceland rentals.

Basic road assistance protection such as assistance with mechanical failure to the car is covered at no additional cost. Additional roadside assistance protection that covers tire change, empty tank, locked in keys etc is also available for a daily fee of 806.45 isk plus vat. Please note that this service does not cover self-inflicted situations such as wrong refueling of the car and cannot remove the renters excess in case of damage and/or theft regardless of the insurance coverage chosen at time of pick up. The renter and each additional driver must be in possession and present a fully valid driving license held for a minimum of one year at the day of rental. If renter's national driving license is not printed in Roman script - i.e., Arabic, Greek, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, etc. - an International Driving Permit - IDP - is also required. The renter must be in possession and present a valid credit card.

General Third Party Liability insurance is mandatory and included with all rental rates. Liability insurance covers third party property damage and bodily injury caused by the insured. Sum insured in each and every loss and aggregate for the year 2018 is 285,000,000.00 ISK.

The cost of a rental car depends on many factors and can vary greatly. These factors include:

  • The length of time you are renting the car
  • Car class selected
  • Rental location
  • Added insurance or protection products
  • Additional products selected
  • If you have to modify your reservation
  • If you have to extend your reservation
  • If you have to change your rental drop-off location

To rent a car from Enterprise Rent-A-Car in the United States and Canada, you will need the following:

  • To be 25 years old 
  • A valid driver's license with a photo
  • A photo ID (For example: a driver’s license or passport)
  • Credit or debit card (check the acceptable forms of payment at the location you’re renting from)

Some locations may require additional information, including but not limited to: 

  • An International Driving Permit (IDP): If the license is written in a language or characters different to those of the country of rental, an IDP is also required. Renters are advised to check whether local authorities require foreign drivers to present an International Driving Permit to avoid the risk of potential fines. Renters with licenses from countries who are not part of the International Driving Permit Agreement should carry a certified translation.
  • Return travel and accommodation information: Visitors to the UK must also provide proof of return travel and accommodation information while in the UK. 

As a customer, you have a choice as to how you would like to pay for fuel.

Fuel Policy at Non-Airport locations:

  • You may refuel the vehicle to the same fuel level you received when you picked up the vehicle, or if you choose not to refuel the vehicle to the same fuel level, you will be charged the local Enterprise rate which is typically above the local pump price. An additional refueling charge may apply at some locations.
  • A full tank of gas is not guaranteed.

Fuel Policy at Airport Car Rental Locations:

  • You may refuel the vehicle to the same fuel level you received when you picked up the vehicle, or if you choose not to refuel the vehicle to the same fuel level, you will be charged the local Enterprise rate which is typically above the local pump price. An additional refueling charge may apply at some locations.
  • You may opt to pre-pay for fuel -- Pre-pay gives you two conveniences:
    • You can avoid the hassle of having to fuel up the vehicle before returning.
    • Pre-pay fuel option is calculated at the local rate of gas minus a per gallon discount.

Note: Prepaid fuel is only sold in full tanks at the discounted price per gallon and is not refundable. Local fuel rates will vary by the area you are renting a vehicle.
