Enterprise Car Rental Locations in Arezzo

The city of Arezzo is located on the eastern side of Tuscany and is a gateway to this spectacular region. The nearest airport is 88 kilometers away in Perugia, from where you can reach other European cities. There’s an Enterprise Rent-A-Car office in downtown Perugia, near the train station.

Alternatively, you can fly to Florence airport, which is 96 kilometers north of Arezzo. From here, you can pick up the keys to a rental car from the airport and head out for a Tuscan adventure.

What to do and see in Arezzo

Arezzo is a picturesque city that embodies Italian charm. Besides its location amid the hills of Tuscany, the city’s main attraction is its historical downtown, dotted with dozens of beautifully preserved medieval buildings.

The city’s Piazza Grande, or main square, is the starting point of every walking tour in Arezzo. The square is flanked by imposing palaces, churches dating back to the 10th century, and medieval towers. From Piazza Grande, it’s a short walk to the city’s ancient walls and fortress. This area offers some of the best views of Arezzo and the surrounding countryside.

It’s no secret that Italy is a gourmet lover’s paradise, and Arezzo certainly lives up to the expectations. Local delicacies include truffled pheasant, pappardelle all’aretina (homemade pasta with duck and prosciutto), and Chianina steak.

The best places to sample local cuisine are the osterias that surround Piazza Grande. These venues come in all flavors: from modern spots serving contemporary Italian cuisine to traditional joints that will delight you with hearty meals.

This being Tuscany, wine bars are everywhere, so you’ll never be far from a stylish venue where you can sample the local varieties of Chianti and other Tuscan DOC wines, such as Cortona, Valdichiana and Valdarno di Sopra.

There are always things to do in Arezzo during a family vacation with kids. You can drive 40 minutes to Monteverchi and follow in the footsteps of dinosaurs at the Paleontological Museum. Along the way, you can stop at Valle dell'Inferno Nature Preserve and enjoy a relaxing family picnic.

Approximately 10 kilometers north of the downtown area is Azienda Villa Magna Tartufi, where the whole family can go on a treasure hunt for truffles. If you visit during the summer, a day at Aquapark Crocodile will surely delight the young ones in the family.

If you’re looking for a modern shopping experience, you’ll want to drop by Arezzo’s biggest shopping malls: Centro Arezzo and Al Magnifico, conveniently located next to each other. Those who visit the first Sunday of every month can’t miss the antiques fair and flea market at Piazza Grande.

The historic center is packed with boutiques and traditional stores selling everything from handmade leather goods and jewelry to Italian herbs, antiques and souvenirs. This is a great place to browse.

Arezzo’s events calendar features interesting celebrations, such as the medieval festival called Giostra del Saracino, held twice a year in June and September. The town’s convention center (Arezzo Fieri e Congressi) hosts annual fairs and events, like the International Jewelry Exhibition, classic car shows and comic book fairs, among others.

Driving in Arezzo

If you’re driving to Arezzo from Florence’s airport, you’ll follow Autostrada A1 for most of the route. This freeway links Milan and Naples and is the longest road of its kind in Italy. Speed limits are 130 km/h, with some sections having maximum speeds of 110 km/h. This is a toll road, and payment can be made in cash or with cards. Make sure you choose the lane labeled “Biglietto” or “Carte” if you’re paying by card.

If you’ve booked your car rental in Arezzo from the Enterprise branch in Perugia, you can take the scenic route and drive along SR142 road, which offers panoramic views of Trasimeno Lake regional park. Alternatively, you can take a more direct route via SS3B road, which takes you through the hills and plains of Umbria.

The main access and exit arteries into Arezzo are SR142 road through the north, SR69 through the west (this road spins off the A1 freeway), and SS73 through the east. Although there’s no beltway in Arezzo as such, the SR142 road, Via Vittorio Veneto and Via dei Carabinieri provide access to most parts of the city.

The urban speed limit while driving your car or van rental in Arezzo is 50 km/h. Please note that some areas in downtown Arezzo are designated as ZTL (Limited Traffic Zones), which means that driving is not allowed at certain hours of the day. This mainly affects the streets adjacent to Corso Italia (a pedestrian street) between the city fortress and the Roman amphitheater. Check the signs for up-to-date details.

Paid parking within the city is signaled with blue lines. If you’re planning to spend the whole day sightseeing, you’re better off paying the daily parking fee at the parking lots in Pietri, Mecenate, and Baldaggio, which are known for being affordable and close to the main landmarks.
